Agriculture
Research what crops can grow in your area. Some may include:
● Maize
● Yams/sweet potatoes/potatoes
● Wheat
● Rice
● Sugar cane
● Cassava
● Sorghum
● Plantains
● Tomatoes
● Bananas
● Sugar beet
● Onion
● Millet
● Oranges
● Groundnuts with shell
Find out all you can about each of the crops you can plant. Growing time, conditions and special care.
Do Leaf Bashing activity (see video below) with a variety of different leaves and flowers. Use a stone/rock/log if you do not have a hammer. Use paper if you do not have a white cloth.
Some of these lessons are more suitable for older children.
- Learn about Photosynthesis. What elements are involved.
- Learn about plant reproduction/pollination. What pollinates each crop?
- Learn about seed dispersal. Get a selection of seeds to study. Draw them. Cut them open.
- Learn about sowing, planting, growing and harvesting by doing it. Get younger children involved too
- Learn how to prepare/cook the produce that has been grown. The younger children can taste the produce too
